Vancouver Police join rap battle about winter driving on social media

You may have noticed a trend on social media this past week – police departments across Canada challenging each other to a #PoliceRapBattle.

The goal is to create a rap, set to a popular tune, and include a message about safe winter driving.

It all started with a tweet from Kindersley RCMP on Tuesday – a winter driving message that took the form of an epic parody to Vanilla Ice’s 1990 hit “Ice Ice Baby”.

On Thursday, the detachment challenged the Vancouver Police Department to take part and so they stepped up.

Their rap is set to MC Hammer’s “U Can’t Touch This”.

It don’t snow here (x5)

The, the, the, the raining hits us, so hard
Makes us say, “Oh my Lord,
Thank you for blessing us
With cars to drive and umbrellas.”
It feels good, when you have to slow down
Cause you can’t see the road or be drivin’ like a clown
And drive safe, and slow
And this is a fact, uh, you can’t touch

We told you East Coast (it don’t snow here)
Yeah, that’s how we drive it and you know (it don’t snow here)
Look at our roads, man (it don’t snow here)
Yo, but when it snows here we park it (it don’t snow here)

Fresh new tires, and rims
You gotta like that, now you know you wanna drive
So go slow, onto the street
When raining hard and you got wet feet
While you’re cruising, hold on
That’s a ped up ahead, let em know what’s going on
Like that, yup stop
Cold on a mission so let them cross
Let ‘em know, that you’re too cool
And this is a car, uh, that stops

Yo, I told you (it don’t snow here)
Why you driving like that, man? (it don’t snow here)
Yo, sound the bell, buckle up, driver! (it don’t snow here)

It don’t snow here (x3)

Slow it down!

Stop, Hammer time!

Cst. Brian Montague with the Vancouver Police Department says the lyrics were written by Cst. Sandra Glendinning, who is the social media officer.

No word yet on whether the department will be putting out a video performing their new rap.
