Five impaired drivers nabbed on first night of Operation Christmas

HALIFAX – Five impaired drivers were charged on Thursday night in five separate incidents in the city.

Halifax Regional Police responded to three single vehicle crashes overnight. In two of the crashes, no one was injured, but the driver of the third sustained non-life threatening injuries.

In addition to the three crashes, a concerned person called in a drunk driver, and a fifth person was caught at a traffic stop.

All five were charged with driving under the influence.

These five charges come on the first night of Operation Christmas 2015, an annual campaign put off by the HRP to reduce impaired driving and to encourage safe winter driving.

During Operation Christmas, officers conduct checkpoints throughout the region to make sure drivers are sober while driving, and educated about the dangers of drinking and driving.

HRP encourages people to help continue to help play a role in reducing impaired driving, by calling 9-1-1 if you have information about a drunk driver.
