Calgary City Council approves $47M spending

CALGARY – City council approved a $47-million increase in spending in order to stimulate Calgary’s economy Wednesday.

There’s a long list of planned projects that will now get a kick start, including the Ogden/Glenmore interchange ($95, 150), the new Central Library ($70, 006) and the Seton ($92, 154) and Rocky Ridge ($83, 945) recreation facilities.

It’s estimated the increase in spending will create 400 jobs, with the money coming from reserve funds.

Mayor Naheed Nenshi said there will be no increase in property taxes related to the projects.
