LETHBRIDGE – Lethbridge’s Leeroy Stagger is one of the most popular artists in Southern Alberta, and now his career has earned a big time boost.
The roots rock singer/songwriter won first place in the second annual PEAK Performance Project, a competition open to all Alberta musicians. Stagger was one of 12 artists in the final and earned $100,953 for the win.
“When we won it was such a shock and surprise, it was really, really cool,” said Stagger. “It’s a huge opportunity. It’s basically like a really great record deal that you don’t have to pay back.”

The PEAK Performance Project – run by Alberta Music and Calgary radio station 95.3 The Peak – is committed to giving local artists a break. In addition to the prize money, Stagger also received a one-week training program with industry professionals, focused on the music business, live performances, song writing, marketing and promotion.
The Lethbridge import plans to spread the hundred grand out over the next two years on touring, and potentially a stand-alone studio. But one of his goals stands above the rest.

“I feel pressure in a good way to have a career defining record,” said Stagger. “To make that definitive record for my career, now I have a chance to do that.”
Stagger was declared the winner following a live performance showcase of all the finalists Saturday at Flames Central in Calgary. The prize money has to be used to help develop his music career.
