Condition of deplorable Saskatchewan highway a bumpy ride for minister

REGINA – Saskatchewan’s highways minister is being grilled about conditions on a notoriously bad stretch of highway.

Jim Reiter faced questions from the Opposition NDP about Highway 22, between Southey and Earl Grey.

The stretch of highway is leading CAA Saskatchewan’s survey in a worst roads campaign.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

It was also one of the top five worst roads named by the Saskatchewan Party before it took power in the 2007 election.

Reiter says there are a lot of bad highways across the province and he admits 22 is in deplorable condition.

But he says some survey work has been completed on the road and the ministry is looking at what maintenance can be done until it is rebuilt.
