Organizers of one of Vancouver’s most popular holiday attractions have experienced a bit of a setback.
The Bright Nights display raises big money for B.C. burn survivors each Christmas.
But this year, a Grinch has made off with thousands of dollars worth of cables to complete the installation.
“We came here Thursday morning to carry on putting up our light display and discovered we had some cables stolen,” said Ray Boucher, the Burn Fund and Brights Nights spokesperson. “We took a walk around and found, in addition, we lost two 200-foot cables. They’re quite heavy and the’re 600 volts, they’re quite heavy. And they just cut them and took them.”
The cost is about $7,000 to replace, costing this fundraiser for the Burn Fund.
“We have to spend time now to put this back together again,” said Boucher. “We have to order all the cables and they’re not, I don’t think there’s a supplier in town here that has them in stock so we’re shooting for Tuesday to get them in.”
Valor Fireplaces has now stepped up to cover the cost of the cables after seeing coverage on Global BC‘s weekend news.
The exhibit is still set to open Nov. 26.
