A Florida nurse’s trip to the doctor last week revealed she had stage 4 cancer, and her only wish was to marry the love of her life while she still had the chance.
Nancy Jeandell, 57, an intensive care unit nurse at Bay Pines hospital, admitted to WFLA News her job can be stressful at times and the days can be long. That’s why when she felt pain in her back, she brushed it off as the intensity of her career putting a strain on her.
However, she went to her doctor when the pain was too much to handle and was told she had metastatic cancer, with tumours growing on her spine, lungs and bones.
“Last week I was just going to work, going to the grocery store. And this week I have… cancer,” Jeandell told WLFA.
While she was still able to, Jeandell wanted one last wish: To marry the man she loved, David Griffith.
Jeandell and Griffith met when they were both 19 years old at a restaurant. She was a server, and him a cook.

With the help of friends, family and doctors, the two sweethearts were able to marry in the ICU where Jeandell was being treated.
“I see that I might not have too long [but] I see that I [will] love him forever,” Jeandell told WLFA.
Jeandell, who has stage 4 cancer, has decided to undergo one round of chemotherapy and radiation and will decide from there what to do next.
In the meantime, she has some advice to everyone who comes across her story: “Live a full life, and do the best you can in this life. That’s what I’ve got to say. Love the people that are around you.”
