Calgary man charged in 3 bank robberies

CALGARY –Police have charged Curtis Douglas Keller in connection with three bank robberies that took place this past week in Calgary.

Police said they believe these robberies may have been committed to support a fentanyl addiction. 

The first one happened on Tuesday, at around 12 p.m. at the ATB branch in the 11,000 block of Rockey Valley Drive N.W.

Police said a man approached the teller and presented a note indicating he was armed and demanded money. He was given an undisclosed amount of cash and then left. 

The following day, just before noon, a male suspect did the same thing at the Scotiabank in the 200 block of 61 Avenue S.W. This time, the bank manager asked him to remove his sunglasses, at which time the man fled.

On Thursday, a man entered the ATB branch in the 1100 block of 17 Avenue S.W. at around 12:15 p.m. He again presented a note to a teller that indicated he was armed and demanded money. He was given cash and left the area. 

Police said they found the suspect Friday, in a downtown hotel where he was arrested. 

Keller, a 23-year-old from Calgary, is charged with three counts of robbery.
