Murder charges laid after 17-year-old killed in west Edmonton

EDMONTON — Edmonton police have laid murder charges after a teenage girl was fatally stabbed on Halloween.

An autopsy confirmed Leona Neapetung-Stevens, 17, suffered fatal stab wounds and that her death is a homicide.

Police were called around 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31, to a townhome in west Edmonton’s Terra Losa neighbourhood.

Officers arrived at the residence near 96 Avenue and 176 Street to find the body of a deceased teenage girl.

Joseph Sinclair, 20, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

“She was a shining star that needs to be remembered,” said one friend who asked not to be identified.
