MONCTON – Premier Brian Gallant says he has high hopes for the province’s new Liberal Members of Parliament after meeting with them Sunday afternoon.
Gallant says he wants to build a closer relationship with Ottawa.
“We just want to make sure that our region is treated fairly and that we’re given some of the tools that we need to have economic growth and jobs in New Brunswick,” he said.
Liberals won all 10 seats in the province in the Oct. 19 federal election.

One of them, Dominic LeBlanc, is one of the longest-serving Liberals in the province.
LeBlanc also has close ties to the premier and Prime-minister-designate Justin Trudeau.
“I have the advantage of being a friend and admirer of the current premier of New Brunswick,” he said. “So I think the Liberal caucus federally for New Brunswick has a lot more tools in the tool box than we had a month ago.”
Gallant says he has priorities in mind for the province and he hopes the new government will help.
“Ensure we focus on economic growth creating jobs and helping families have a better quality of life,” he said.
LeBlanc says under the new government the premier can count on the MPs’ dedication to change
“What can the Government of Canada do to be a better partner for you in pursuing a number of shared objectives in creating jobs and improving the infrastructure and finding employment opportunities for young people and looking after seniors and striking a new relationship on things like healthcare and the environment?” he asked.
Trudeau will announce his cabinet Nov. 4.
