UPDATE: Trucker charged in Highway 30 pileup

CHÂTEAUGUAY – The driver of a tractor trailer was arrested and faces charges of dangerous driving causing injury in connection with a seven-car pileup on Highway 30 west in Châteauguay that injured six people.

The accident happened shortly after noon on Wednesday, when the driver of the tractor trailer crashed into the car in front of it.

The truck then hit a van, three cars and another truck.

One of the cars ended up stuck under the truck.

One person was seriously injured and another is in critical condition in hospital. Four others suffered minor injuries.

Provincial police are trying to determine the cause of the crash but say speed might be a factor.

The 40-year-old driver of the tractor trailer was arrested at the scene and then released on a promise to appear in court at a later date.
