Twitter wars end along with the Blue Jays post-season

TORONTO – When the Toronto Blue Jays started the ALCS, rivalries between Toronto and Kansas City cropped up all over twitter.

It first started when Kansas City Mayor Sylvester “Sly” James proposed a wager online. James offered up some barbecue sauce to his Toronto counterpart if the Royals lost. Mayor John Tory replied by offering James a chance to try “real beer” to wash down the barbecue.

After a nail-biting game Friday night that eventually led to the elimination of the Jays, Tory gracefully conceded his loss on Twitter.

The Toronto Public Libraries also had to accept defeat in their ongoing “book spine poetry” war with the Kansas City Public Library.

“But didn’t we have fun? Forever Blue. Go Kansas City,” the official twitter account for the library posted Friday night.

“Pitch perfect, furiously happy. You can’t lose with Kansas City Baseball. Dearest Canada, the game must go on,” the Kansas City Library officials replied.

But don’t despair! There will still be plenty of zany tweets and comments coming our way. Just because the Jays are out of the post-season doesn’t mean all the twitter accounts created will go away.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Jose Meowtista, a popular cat parody twitter account of Jose Bautista, the star of the Jays’ post-season, will continue bringing cat memes and photos to our news feeds.

We’ll have to wait until next year before the players take the field again, and there’s no telling what lies in store for the team, or for the fans. But thanks to the feuds, videos, parodies, and Bautista’s bat-flip meme, there’s no doubt the Jays’ online fanbase grew dramatically this year.
