Drunk man makes offensive remarks to Penticton elementary school girl

PENTICTON – Parents of students at a Penticton school have received letters alerting them to a disturbing incident.

It says after classes ended Tuesday at Carmi Elementary, a female student was walking home when she was approached by a very intoxicated man.

He made offensive comments to the girl and followed her.

After telling her parents what happened, they talked to the man and called RCMP who arrested the suspect.

The letter says police are very familiar with the man but not for previous such incidents.

Penticton RCMP S/Sgt. Kurt Lozinski says the man was arrested for public drunkeness and later released.

He won’t be charged for his interactions with the girl.

“The family is understanding of that,” says Lozinski.

The school principal says the child’s parents want to put the incident behind them and are happy with how it was handled.

Sharon Sola is reminding parents of the importance of educating children regarding “stranger danger.”
