Liberal Party win sparks celebrations at Portage and Main

WINNIPEG — After Liberal leader Justin Trudeau was declared the new Prime Minister of Canada, a group gathered at Portage and Main celebrating the victory.

The indigenous group drummed, sang and danced at the historic corner for more than an hour, happy with the election outcome.

The group’s organizer says they’re looking forward to a leader that will bring change to the first nations community.

“We said anyone but Harper,” said Jennifer Spence, “and we’re hopeful that this man will come into a place of talks and understanding and hopefully we’ll be able to fill some gaps where we couldn’t reach Harper.
