Shots fired at northern Alberta electric transformer start fire

EDMONTON – RCMP in Fox Creek, Alta. are investigating after reports of shots being fired into an Atco Electric Plant.

The shots damaged two electric transformers and caused an oil spill which then caught fire, police said.

The fire was quickly contained and extinguished by plant employees.

It happened in the early evening on Saturday, Oct. 17 at a plant site off Simonette Road in the Municipal District of Greenview, 100 kilometres northwest of Fox Creek.

The RCMP is asking for the public’s help with the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Fox Creek RCMP at 780-622-3580 or Crime Stoppers.

Fox Creek is approximately 265 kilometres northwest of Edmonton.
