Canadiens sign centre Tomas Plekanec to US$12-million, two-year extension

MONTREAL – The Montreal Canadiens have signed centre Tomas Plekanec to a US$12-million, two-year extension.

Plekanec will count $6 million against the salary cap and earn $7 million next season and $5 million in 2017-18.

The soon-to-be 33-year-old doesn’t have any no-trade protection in the deal.

Plekanec had 26 goals and 34 assists in playing all 82 games for the Canadiens last season.

In 766 career regular-season games, Plekanec has 206 goals and 297 assists.
