Mars, Jupiter join in early morning sky this weekend

If you’re willing to get up a little early and the skies are clear, you can catch a planetary pairing that won’t be seen again until 2018.

Mars and Jupiter will join in the early morning on Saturday and Sunday.

Mars will be the dimmer of the two, while Jupiter will be easy to pick out as it’s fairly bright.

And the pair will be joined by Venus above. Jupiter and Venus will have their close encounter on Oct. 25.

While you do need to get up early to catch the pairing, called a conjunction — around 6:15 a.m. — you don’t need anything but your own two eyes to appreciate it. If you have a pair of binoculars, you can use those to get a close-up view.
