WATCH: Abducted girl leaps from moving car to escape her captor

Surveillance camera footage from Bridgeport, Connecticut showed the moment a 17-year-old girl risks life and limb to escape an alleged kidnapping attempt.

Bridgeport Police public safety spokesman Kevin Coughlin tells Global News that police responded to a call of a possible kidnapping at 7:15 a.m. Monday at the corner of Boston and Palisade avenues.

There they found a 17-year-old girl suffering from what police said were minor injuries after she said she was abducted while on her way to school Monday morning.

A nearby traffic camera showed the girl evaded her captor by jumping from the passenger door of their moving car while it sped down Boston Avenue.

According to the girl, the female driver of a grey Toyota Yaris lured her into the car and then physically assaulted her.

The victim then jumped from the passenger door as the car sped west down Boston avenue. The suspect vehicle did a U-Turn after the teen jumped out, but did not attempt to grab her again.

Coughlin tells Global News the suspect is a Hispanic female in her 40s with long black hair, freckles, and was last seen wearing a leather jacket.

Police are still trying to determine how the suspect lured the girl into her car, but say it’s too early to assume the victim and suspect may have known each other prior to Monday’s incident.

“Police have no reason to believe the victim knew the suspect at this point in the investigation,” Coughlin said.
