Colouring books for grown ups flying off the shelves

WINNIPEG — It’s usually a challenge for children, but staying between the lines has grown to be a popular way for adults to escape every day stress.

“It’s easy to get lost in technology,” Taylor Gagne said. Gagne currently studies at University of Winnipeg. “I find I relax when I am working on a picture and it takes my mind off things.”

Gagne isn’t alone. Adult colouring books have been flying off the shelves in Winnipeg. The books feature intricate designs and many of them are advertised as a means of relaxation.

“A lot of people will do that through meditation or through yoga, through mindfulness,”Cardinal said. “That’s essentially what this is. It’s a form of mindfulness, it’s about centering and grounding yourself.”

Adult colouring books can be found at big bookstores as well as independent bookstores in Winnipeg.
