Police investigate suspicious death in southeast Calgary

CALGARY – Police are investigating a suspicious death in the community of Forest Lawn.

Officers were called to the 2600 block of 43 Street S.E. just before 6 a.m. on Wednesday by an area resident who found a man lying on the ground unresponsive.

When they arrived, investigators determined the man was deceased.

A neighbour who lives in the area told Global News he awoke to what sounded like a pistol being fired.

“I was sleeping and my window is always open,” said Steven Ouelette. “I heard like four or five ‘pops’… I heard the cops almost two or three minutes after.”

An autopsy has not yet been scheduled.

Police are asking anyone who was in the area before 6 a.m. to call the non-emergency line at 403-266-1234 or the Homicide Unit Tip Line at 403-428-8877. Tips can also be made anonymously by contacting Crime Stoppers.

Calgary police are also investigating the death of a man found suffering from serious injuries in the 4200 block of Centre Street N.W. at around 9 a.m. He was transported to hospital where he later died. Investigators say there is no indication that the deaths are related.
