CALGARY – Shashi Shergill’s hard work is paying off with some national recognition.
The Grade 5 teacher at Connect Charter School is one of only six people across Canada getting an award for excellence in teaching history.

Shergill won it because of her focus on the important role First Nations have played.
She’ll be travelling to Ottawa next month to receive her award from the governor-general.
“It’s a real honour, it really is,” said Shergill, adding, “I learn so much every day I walk in the classroom from the kids.”
