ST. PAUL, Minn. – The St. Paul chapter of Black Lives Matter plans to protest at the Twin Cities Marathon.
The group says it’s planning on “shutting down” the 26.2-mile race on Oct. 4. The rally is designed to disrupt and bring awareness to recent incidents involving St. Paul police and people of colour.
Organizers are highlighting the Sept. 20 forcible arrest of 15-year-old Tyree Tucker, as well as the death of 30-year-old Philip Quinn, who was shot by police on Thursday.
Black Lives Matter organizers said they recently met with Police Chief Tom Smith and others. They called it a baby step.
The rally will start at 10 a.m. Oct. 4 in Boyd Park, along St. Paul’s Selby Avenue.
