Cathriona White, the girlfriend of Canadian actor Jim Carrey, has been found dead in an apparent suicide.
Reports suggest that the 28-year-old died of an apparent drug overdose at a residence in Los Angeles. The 53-year-old actor met White in 2012 and the two dated on and off since then.
They were most recently seen together hand-in-hand in New York City on May 21, a day after the actor made an appearance on the finale of “The Late Show With David Letterman”.
The Canadian-born actor released this statement today:
“I am shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of my sweet Cathriona. She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled. My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her. We have all been hit with a lightening bolt.”
Reports suggest that the two broke up before she committed suicide.

Meanwhile on Carrey’s Twitter feed his most recent tweet was a picture of him in Grand Central Station taken by White, captioned: “I am nothing. What a relief”.
