HALIFAX – A dog was accidentally hit by a car on a Nova Scotia highway and got stuck in the bumper for a nearly 200-kilometres drive on Monday. She lived to bark the tale.
“I’ve seen lots of dogs hit by cars over the years but, definitely, her story is at the top of the list considering what she survived,” said Dr. Kyla Wuhr, a veterinarian at Carnegy Animal Hospital.
The dog is in surprisingly decent health, with only an infected facial wound needing to be fixed, she added.

The dog was taken in by Litters ‘n Critters Rescue Society.
“She’s a fighter, we should call her Rocky Balboa,” said Shelley Cunningham, the group’s president.
After the dog was hit in Port Hawkesbury on Monday, the driver pulled over and looked for the terrier mix without success, she said. The man continued on Highway 105 for two hours.
“When he got into his driveway in Glace Bay, he heard a noise coming from his car, and Miracle was stuck in the bumper of his car,” said Cunningham.
The dog was taken to an animal hospital, and the owners were contacted. They weren’t able to afford treatment, so Litters ‘n Critters got involved.
“She’s full of kisses, she’s like a lick machine,” said Terri Buckland, who became the dog’s foster mother on Wednesday. “The thing that stands out the most about her is how gentle she is and just accepting, and the amount of love that just pours out of her for us and our dog is, it’s unreal.”
Miracle, who was previously named Candy before the group took her into its care, was stitched up Thursday afternoon. Following a couple of weeks of recovery, she will be put up for adoption.
