The following are the Official Competition Rules for the Global Edmonton Morning News Viewer Panel competition (the “Competition”), which is administered and hosted by Global Edmonton (“Global Edmonton”), a division of Shaw Television Limited Partnership (“Shaw”).
RULE 1. HOW TO ENTER
No Purchase Necessary. THIS COMPETITION IS DESIGNED TO SELECT THREE (3) VIEWERS TO ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE IN A WEEKLY POLITICAL PANEL IN THE MORNING NEWS BETWEEN APRIL 4th AND MAY 9th, 2012. .
To enter, entrants must submit an Application (defined below) in advance to Global Edmonton.
A. Application.
The Application is comprised of the following:
(i) A description of why you should be selected for the Morning News Viewer Panel (“Participant Application”) and
(ii) Your full name, age, daytime phone number and email address (the “Participant Application”)
No other items should be enclosed in the Application. Any Application which is missing any of the foregoing required elements or which contains extraneous materials will not be evaluated. Entrant(s) must complete the Participant Application using their full legal name(s). Applications must be received by Global Edmonton no later than 4:00 pm MST on Friday, March 23rd, 2012. Global Edmonton reserves the right to extend the entry deadline in its sole discretion. If any such extension is granted, notice will be posted online at: GlobalTVEdmonton.com. Applications must be submitted online at GlobalTVEdmonton.com.
Due to the high volume of applications anticipated, Global Edmonton will not be able to answer any questions about the receipt of any Application. All Applications (the “Entrant Materials”), will become the sole property of Global Edmonton once submitted and will not be returned whether or not an entrant is selected to participate in the Competition. Any expenses incurred by entrants during the application process (including, but not limited to, the cost of preparation of the Entrant Materials) are the entrant’s sole responsibility. Illegible, incomplete or late Applications are void and will be discarded. Proof of submission does not constitute proof of receipt. Limit of one (1) entry per person. Duplicate entries by any person will be declared void and ineligible.
Upon review of the Applications, ten (10) entrants shall be selected to be finalists (the “Finalists”) in the Competition eligible to become one (1) of the three (3) participants in the Morning News Viewer Panel (as defined below) and shall be required to attend an audition in Edmonton on Thursday, March 29th, 2012 (the “Audition”). Should Global Edmonton not succeed in contacting the selected entrants after two (2) attempts to do so, or should the selected entrants fail to attend the Audition as required, the entrant may be disqualified.
RULE 2. ENTRANT AND COMPETITOR SELECTION
A. Finalists
The selection of the Finalists will be at Global Edmonton’s sole discretion. Global Edmonton shall consider, among other factors: (i) the entrant’s Application; (ii) the capacity of the entrant(s) to participate in this Competition and if selected as a Finalist, as part of the Morning News Viewer Panel; and (iii) the ability of the Finalists to express themselves in a clear and/or compelling manner in front of the camera.
The selected Finalists will each receive a $50 pre-paid VISA card in appreciation of their participation in the audition.

B. Global Edmonton Morning News Viewer Panel
Based on its evaluation of Finalists at the Audition, Global Edmonton shall choose three (3) of the Finalists to become panelists on the Morning News Viewer Panel (the “Morning News Viewer Panel”), which shall involve representing their opinions on election issues discussed weekly in a special political segment in the Morning News (the “Reports”) to viewers of Global Edmonton. The selected Morning News Viewer Panel will participate in the live broadcast in the Morning News on Wednesdays at approximately 650am – 730am between April 4th and May 9th, 2012. The Morning News Viewer Panel will be promoted and interviewed on Global Edmonton during the participation period, April 4th to May 9th, 2012 (the “Participation Period”). The selected members of the Morning News Viewer Panel must be available during the Participation Period and for a promotional shoot on Tuesday, April 3rd in the morning. Potential panelists of the Morning News Viewer Panel shall be notified by telephone no later than Friday, March 30th, 2012 that they have been chosen as a panelist. If a potential panelist cannot be reached within 24 hours of the first attempt at contact, Global Edmonton may select an alternate Finalist, and the originally selected Finalist may be disqualified and forfeits the opportunity to compete in the Competition.
The selection of the Morning News Viewer Panel is at Global Edmonton’s sole discretion, and Global Edmonton will not entertain appeals with respect to the selection of the Morning News Viewer Panel. Global Edmonton’s decisions are final in all matters relating to this Competition, including but not limited to the selection of the Morning News Viewer Panel.
RULE . CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION
All entrants shall be required to submit a completed Application.
Before being selected as a panelist of the Morning News Viewer Panel, selected Finalists shall also be required to sign a declaration: (i) allowing Global Edmonton to record (in any media and for possible future broadcast, without additional consideration) all Finalists during the Audition and the Reports; and (ii) confirming Finalist’s understanding of the risks associated with participation as a panelist of the Morning News Viewer Panel and the ability to attend on the date(s) required, (the “Declaration”).
In addition, potential panelists of the Morning News Viewer Panel must cooperate with Global Edmonton, when and as requested, to verify eligibility and the accuracy of information disclosed as part of the selection process. This may include, without limitation, providing to Global Edmonton: (i) a criminal background check in a form acceptable to Global Edmonton; and (ii) proof of residence.
RULE 4. ELIGIBILITY
To enter the Competition, you must be a legal resident of Alberta who is 18 years of age or older. Entrants cannot have a criminal record or pending criminal charges which might, in the sole discretion of Global Edmonton, impugn the integrity of Shaw Media Inc., Global Edmonton, the Competition or the Reports. You are not eligible to enter this Competition if you are: (i) an employee, contractor, representative, or agent of Shaw Media Inc., Global Edmonton, any sponsors of the Reports, any entity supplying goods or services in respect to this Competition, their respective advertising and promotional agencies, and the parent companies, affiliates, or subsidiaries of any of the above; (ii) member of the immediate family (including spouses, parents, siblings, children and each of their respective spouses, regardless of where they reside) or household of any of the above entities; (iii) a member of any political party or (iv) a member of any performers’ union or guild.
RULE 5. RELEASES
Shaw Media Inc., Global Edmonton and any sponsor, their respective advertising and promotional agencies, and the parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, agents or representatives of any of the above, and each of their respective agents, officers, employees, licensees, (collectively, the “Releasees”) are not responsible for (i) lost, destroyed, delayed, incomplete, illegible or misdirected Applications; (ii) any damage, claims or costs of any kind resulting from any accident or incident occurring to any entrant or any member of his/her Family, resulting from any accident or incident occurring, during or en route to or from the Audition or the recording of the Reports; or (iii) any other factors beyond the reasonable control of the Releasees.
As a condition of entering this Competition, you agree that: (i) any and all claims, judgments and awards are limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred in participating in this Competition; and (ii) you waive all rights to claim any other damages, including punitive, incidental and consequential damages and attorneys’ fees; and (iii) entrants’ shall in no event be entitled to any injunctive or other remedial relief.
RULE 6. GENERAL
By participating in this Competition, you agree to abide by these Official Competition Rules. Entrants who have not complied with these Official Competition Rules are subject to disqualification. Shaw reserves the right to disqualify any entrant or Competitor whose character or conduct, if declared to be the winner, could bring the reputation of the Competition, Shaw Media Inc., Global Edmonton or any sponsor into disrepute. Global Edmonton reserves the right to modify the Official Competition Rules, Application or any other aspect of the Competition, before or during the Competition, in its sole discretion, in any way at any time it deems necessary or appropriate without materially affecting the terms and conditions of this Competition.
Personal information collected during the course of this Competition shall be used by Global Edmonton and its authorized agents solely for the purposes of conducting the Competition and selecting members of the Morning News Viewer Panel, and will not be used or disclosed for any other purpose unless required by law.
Entrants must provide valid proof of age, residency and photo identification (such as a birth certificate, driver’s license or passport) to Global Edmonton.
Competitors agree to use of their name, address (city, province only) and likeness for publicity purposes without further notice or compensation. Finalists and the selected members of the Global Ground Force further agree to make themselves available, without compensation, to participate in additional publicity, promotional, sponsorship and merchandising activities including, but not limited to, any on-line/internet based activity, undertaken in connection with the Reports as may be reasonably requested by Global Edmonton. Competitors shall not, without Global Edmonton’s written consent, give any interview or make, give or release any statement for publication, or otherwise to be made public, by any means relating to the Competition, the Reports, Shaw Media Inc. or Global Edmonton without Global Edmonton’s prior written consent. Global Edmonton reserves the right to suspend, amend or terminate this Competition at any time should any factor interfere with its conduct as contemplated by these Official Competition Rules.
It is a condition of entry and participation in the Competition that Competitors: (i) make themselves available to participate in the Competition and the Morning News Viewer Panel, (ii) agree to and sign all applicable release forms prepared by Global Edmonton in its sole discretion including, but not limited to the Release and the Declaration (collectively, the “Competition Releases”), (iii) make themselves available as required by Global Edmonton to meet production and filming schedules, including filming of the Reports and of the Auditions; (iv) cooperate fully with the production and filming schedule as determined by Global Edmonton, and (v) abide by the terms and conditions of such Competition Releases and the Official Competition Rules, as may be amended from time to time by Global Edmonton in its sole discretion. There is no obligation on the part of Global Edmonton to produce or broadcast the Reports and/or any aspect of the panelists’ of the Morning News Viewer Panel’s participation with the Reports.
These Official Competition Rules are additional to and do not supersede any and all Competition Releases executed by the entrants, Finalists and/or panelists of the Morning News Viewer Panel and in the event of any conflict between any release and these Competition Rules, the release will prevail. In the event of any dispute concerning the operation of any element of the Competition or these Official Competition Rules, the decision of Global Edmonton will be final.
Competition is subject to all applicable laws of the province of Alberta and the laws of Canada applicable therein. The courts of Edmonton shall be the exclusive jurisdiction to hear any matter arising out of the Competition.
