SASKATOON – The primary goal of the Saskatoon Blades for the upcoming Western Hockey League (WHL) season is to make the playoffs. If the boys in blue want to make the post-season, they need to score more goals then they did last year.
That might not be so easy to do as they lost their top two point scorers in the off-season. In order to reload the arsenal, they brought in Saskatoon-born sniper Connor Gay, who is entering his fourth WHL season.
Gay is excited at the prospect of wrapping up his WHL career with his home-town team.
“I was extremely excited coming home to the home town,” said Gay, “it’s definitely an amazing feeling, especially as a 20-year-old.”

His goal is to crack the lineup and become a leader on the team.
He has 109 points in 167 games and last season, the 20-year-old right winger racked up 61 points last season, 11 more than Saskatoon’s top scorer Brett Stovin.
“We needed a guy that could put up the numbers and being a local guy was just a perfect fit for us,” explained Bob Woods, the Blades general manager and head coach, as to why they traded for Gay.
The Blades know that Gay can light up the lamp, but his scoring touch is only half the reason why the team brought him in. They also expect him to be a leader in the locker room.
“Hopefully I’ll be able to play my game and hopefully add some voices to the team,” said Gay.
