Transit strike looms in New Brunswick city after contract talks break down

MONCTON, N.B. – A possible transit strike is looming next month in Moncton, N.B., after contract talks between the city and the union broke down.

City spokesman Paul Thompson says a number of outstanding issues remain on the table.

They include wages, scheduling and overtime.

A spokesman with the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1290 says it is seeking parity with other transit workers in the Atlantic region.

About 80 Codiac Transpo drivers, mechanics and service workers will be in a legal strike position on April 1.

They have been without a contract since June 2010.
