Co-op refinery evacuated after leak detected

REGINA – More than 1180 workers from the Co-op Refinery were evacuated from the facility for two hours as a precaution on Thursday. Five hundred of the evacuated employees were on site for a Section 5 turnaround.

Co-op spokesperson Brad Delorey said a leak was detected in Section 1 of the complex around 11:00 a.m., but safety crews isolated the area.

Delorey said a precautionary alarm was sounded and employees were evacuated as part of safety protocols. The all clear was issued at 12:58 p.m. Delorey said the evacuation had no impact on production nor the environment.
