TORONTO – A Goodwill community store in west-end Toronto has been evacuated after an item, which police say appears to look like a grenade, was found in a donation box Thursday morning.
Police responded to the store located at 871 Islington Ave. south of The Queensway and north of the Gardiner Expressway.
Police have called in the hazmat team as well as the chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive squad. The device was removed and disposed of Thursday afternoon, according to police.
“Every time we get a call like this we treat it as if it’s real and that it goes off,” said Const. Victor Kwong. “That’s why we close it off.”

Kwong said employees were checking the donation box when they discovered the suspicious object.
Police said no injuries were reported and the building has been closed off to the public.
