Rollover kills driver, 19, in remote area near Pincher Creek

EDMONTON — A 19-year-old man was killed and three other people injured after a Dodge pickup lost control and rolled several times in a remote area of southern Alberta.

Pincher Creek Emergency Services responded around 5 p.m. Sunday to the rollover on Ohagen Road near the Castle Falls recreation area.

A man and two female youths were taken to Pincher Creek hospital with minor injuries. The 19-year-old police believe was driving the truck died on scene. Mounties said he was not wearing a seatbelt.

RCMP are working to determine if alcohol was a factor in the fatal crash. No charges have been laid, and police continue to investigate.

The crash happened about 37 kilometres southwest of Pincher Creek. Pincher Creek is 100 kilometres west of Lethbridge.

Last week the province announced moves to protect the vast Castle Wilderness Area by turning it into Alberta’s 77th provincial park.
