UPDATED: New Mosaic Stadium now over half done

REGINA – The new stadium is now over halfway done and if the weather continues to go cooperate, it will open in just under a year.

According to Mayor Michael Fougere, mother nature has been helping keep stadium construction moving forward. “Even in January, the middle of January was warm weather, dry weather. We’re very very fortunate. On time and on budget.”

Things are quickly taking shape inside the Roughriders’ new home.

So far the concrete superstructure on the east side is nearly finished, with 73 per cent of the pre-casting seating planks in place.

“Each day we see a tangible change in the construction of our multi-purpose community facility,” said Mayor Michael Fougere.

“The development of the spectator roof structure and the exterior façade on the east side enables the community to see what our new stadium will look like when it is near substantial completion in just another year.”

“Some of the finishes on the exterior are really starting to tie into what people have seen with the rendering,” said Sean Hamelin, PCL’s district manager for Regina.

On any given day, 450 tradespeople are working at the site, trying to get as much done as possible before the hot weather disappears.

“If the weather changes, we have plans to deal with it. We’ll redirect labour to deal with the removal of snow or clearing of mud and water,” said Hamelin.

PCL has a couple of things they want to finish off before the snow flies. Workers will be pouring as much of the concrete as possible and also enclosing the halls.

“So that all the interior finishes you can see, steel studs, plumbing, electrical, can happen under controlled conditions, rather than being impacted by the weather,” Hamelin explained.
