‘Assassin’s Creed III’ due in October, game set during American Revolution

MONTREAL – Ubisoft says the latest instalment of its popular “Assassin’s Creed” video game franchise will be released Oct. 30.

“Assassin’s Creed III,” developed by Ubisoft Montreal and six other Ubisoft studios, introduces a new hero and a new century for the game.

The new version is set against the backdrop of the American Revolution in the late 18th century.

The new protagonist is of native American and English heritage. Adopting the name Connor, he becomes the new voice for justice in the ancient war between the Assassins and Templars.

Ubisoft says the game’s development cycle will cover more than three years.

“Assassin’s Creed III” is set for release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii U, and PC.

With more than 31 million copies sold, the “Assassin’s Creed” video game franchise has proved to be a lucrative trip through history for Ubisoft.

The series includes “Assassin’s Creed,” “Assassin’s Creed II,” “Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood” and “Assassin’s Creed Revelations.”

“Revelations,” released in November, took the gamer to the 16th-century Ottoman Empire in Constantinople (modern-day Istanbul) as master assassin Ezio Auditore, wrapping up his trilogy and the story of Altair, the hero of the original “Assassin’s Creed” game.
