CALGARY – It’s hoped a temporary detour opening to drivers on Wednesday will help ease traffic congestion in the city’s northwest.

Drivers along the Trans-Canada Highway have battled with construction slowdowns for months now as crews work to build a new interchange on Bowfort Road – across from Canada Olympic Park.

Starting on Wednesday, drivers will be rerouted onto a new six-lane detour.

The speed limit on the new detour will be 50 km/hr.

The detour will be used for 15 months until the new interchange is opened in late 2016.

The City of Calgary is hoping all final construction elements will be completed by the summer of 2017.
