High winds send boulder-sized red ball rolling down streets of Toledo

If you ever found yourself setting up a massive red ball as a piece of display art and asked yourself “What could possibly go wrong?,” this is likely what you were picturing.

Video shot in Toledo, Ohio Wednesday shows the surreal, amusing – if not potentially dangerous – scene as a giant red ball rolls down city streets.

The boulder-sized red ball was part of the “Play Time” art display from the Toledo Museum of Art when high winds caused it to come loose and start rolling away down city streets.

And just like that, a piece of art was transformed into an impromptu homage to Raiders of the Lost Ark.

“It started pouring rain, so the ball was wet and slippery,” Kelly Garrow, the Toledo Museum of Art director of communications, told ABC News. “The wind picked up, and it popped up and just started going. You can see in the video that’s going viral that it rolled about halfway down a block and then mysteriously took a left-hand turn. It made its way partially down the street before people caught up with it.”

Despite having a diameter of 15 feet and weighing over 250 pounds, the ball is made of a soft material similar to life rafts, and didn’t cause any serious damage beyond a bent signpost. No one was seriously injured.
