TORONTO — Toronto police are warning of a scam targeting members of the South Asian community, after people received unsolicited calls from fake immigration officials.

Police said the scammers informed victims that their permanent resident card was expiring and required renewal.

The callers then told victims to transfer large amounts of money to ensure their immigration status remains valid.
