What is a caiman?

According to Britannica, a caiman, or cayman, is an alligator-like creature usually found in Central and South America.

They are amphibious carnivores, much like their crocodilia counterpart, who usually live near rivers or other bodies of water.

The name “caiman” comes from the Spanish word for alligator.
