Halifax — Hundreds of runners took over north end Halifax this morning for the annual Navy 10k run.

The first group to kick start the run were members of Soldier On. They are current and former members of the military who have suffered physical disabilities.

“I’m participating because this is what chronic pain looks like for a soldier these days,” says Master Seaman Greg Janes, Retired, while wearing his Soldier On t-shirt. “I also suffer from PTSD so it’s good to get out and be amongst my peers.”

A few minutes later, more than 600 runners competed in a 5k and 10k race through the city streets. The event is meant to bring the navy and surrounding communities together for a fun event, all while promoting active living.

“We wanted to create an event for the military and the DND community and the community that the base is located in, in the north end, so we have people from Stadacona here and the dockyard here and members from Shearwater, 12 Wing Shearwater participating in the race,” says Kevin Miller, race director.
