Motorcycle crash on Deerfoot Trail causes Calgary traffic jam

CALGARY – A motorcycle crash caused massive traffic delays on Calgary’s Deerfoot Trail on Friday afternoon.

Northbound Deerfoot Trail was down to a single lane because of the crash just north of Country Hills Blvd. N.E. just before 5 p.m.

EMS said crews responded at about 3:45 p.m. to reports that a motorcycle had lost control. Several callers said the rider was thrown over his bike onto the road.

EMS said a man in his early 60s injured his face and arms as a result. He was taken to Foothills Medical Centre in serious condition, but was stable according to officials.

The motorcycle was also damaged, but no other vehicles were involved.

Deerfoot Trail was backed up for many kilometres on Friday as of 5 p.m.

The Calgary Police Traffic Unit is investigating the factors leading to the crash.
