Miss Piggy, Kermit the Frog announce separation

TORONTO — Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy announced their conscious uncoupling Tuesday, shocking fans of The Muppets around the world.

“After careful thought, thoughtful consideration and considerable squabbling, we have made the difficult decision to terminate our romantic relationship,” read a statement from the former couple.

“We will continue to work together on television … However, our personal lives are now distinct and separate, and we will be seeing other people, pigs, frogs, et al.”

The pair added: “This is our only comment on this private matter…unless we get the right offer.”

Kermit and Miss Piggy will star together this fall on the reboot series The Muppets.

Asked about working with his ex, Kermit admitted: “It’s not as easy as being green.”

It’s not known how many years Kermit and his porcine paramour were in a relationship but it is believed they fell in love while working together on The Muppet Show, which debuted in 1976 and ran for five seasons. They also co-starred on the big screen several times, beginning with 1979’s The Muppet Movie.

For Miss Piggy, the separation is reportedly sweet and sour. “Dating moi is like flying too close to the sun,” she told reporters this week.

Actress Emmy Rossum admitted on Twitter she was upset about the split. “That being said,” she added, “we DO look good together.”

Kermit, though, responded that he’s not quite ready to make the leap.

Actor Alan Cumming also shared his reaction to the separation announcement — expressing hope that it was nothing but a publicity stunt. Miss Piggy responded via Twitter.

Meanwhile, sex expert Dr. Ruth offered to give the puppets a hand.

Designer Marc Jacobs took to Twitter to offer Miss Piggy a different kind of therapy.
