Summary: With drastically changed boundaries, NDP MP Fin Donnelly, who has represented New Westminster-Coquitlam since 2009, will seek re-election here with a significantly different group of voters.
Boundaries: A mostly urban seat in Metro Vancouver, Port Moody-Coquitlam comprises the west and southern portions of Coquitlam, along with the smaller communities of Port Moody, Anmore and Belcarra .
Last Election: This district is an amalgam of the former ridings of New Westminster-Coquitlam (which Donnelly won by 4.5 per cent in 2011) and Port Moody-Westwood-Port Coquitlam (which elected Conservative MP James Moore by 26 per cent in 2011).
Had this riding existed in the last election, the Conservatives would have taken it by 6 per cent more votes than the NDP (based on polling results).
History: With the exception of 1993-2006 under Paul Forseth, Coquitlam has typically elected NDP MPs. Provincially, Coquitlam has tended to be an NDP stronghold, while Port Moody and the other municipalities to the north have tended to support right-wing parties.
Demographics: Relatively affluent, the average income of $44,107 is the seventh highest in the province.
