SALMON ARM — RCMP are asking for the public’s help tracking down the suspect after a Salmon Arm bank was robbed.
It happened Monday afternoon and according to witnesses a bank teller was was forced to turn over money after the suspect pointed a shotgun at the employee.
Sergeant Scott West with Salmon Arm RCMP says police were called to a downtown Salmon Arm bank around 4:15 p.m.
“A suspect described as tall and thin riding a mountain bike entered the bank brandishing what witnesses believed to be a sawed off shotgun and demanded money,” says West.
West says the male suspect was wearing a black balaclava, a long sleeve black cotton shirt and dark jeans and his height is believed to be about 6′ 3″.
West adds the suspect had a makeshift holster taped to his right leg for a long gun he was carrying.
“The suspect then approached the teller counter with the shotgun in hand and demanded money,” says West. “An undisclosed amount of cash was turned over which the suspect placed in a black sports bag and fled the area on the bike.”
West says police were not able to find the suspect and are asking anyone with information to contact them.
