There were some tense moments for residents in Calgary after a tornado warning was issued Wednesday afternoon as funnel clouds were spotted over the city and parts of southern Alberta.
Environment Canada lifted the warning a short time later but confirmed a tornado touched down just north of Priddis at 12:53 p.m. MT.
“This is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation,” Environment Canada had said in a statement at 1 p.m. MT on Wednesday. “Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. If you hear a roaring sound or see a funnel cloud, swirling debris near the ground, flying debris, or any threatening weather approaching, take shelter immediately.”
The weather agency advised residents to seek shelter in the lowest floor of their home away from outside walls and windows, “such as a basement, bathroom, stairwell or interior closet.”
