Calgary canines square off in new twist on an old tradition

CALGARY – It may not be quite as wild as Spain’s “Running of the Bulls” but some Calgarians are about to unleash their own version of the famous event.

They’re now training their pets for a “Running of the Bulldogs” this weekend.

The run involves short races featuring the traditional British bulldogs and the smaller French bulldogs.

“It’s 20 seconds of craziness,” said organizer Sandon Hanson.

The Running of the Bulldogs happens Saturday afternoon as part of an event called Pet-A-Palooza at Eau Claire.

The races start at one o’clock, and if you’ve got a bulldog you’d like to enter, you can register there starting at noon.
