While the sky might be a familiar place for the daredevils, this is the first year the air show has been held at the Springbank Airport.

It was forced to move from Airdrie, after the Calgary Airport authority ruled it would cause major disruptions to air traffic on Calgary’s new runway.

“It’s going well. The venue seems to be going well with the fans and the performers, we’ve all had positive feedback,” said Douglas Self, an organizer for ‘Wings Over Springbank Airshow’.

One issue that caught many off guard was traffic congestion.

The long lines couldn’t be missed from above pilots looking down.

“Insane, I was just glad I was in an airplane it’s about a thousand degrees in the airplane at that point, I was happy I was in an airplane and not in a car trying to get to the show,” Sgt. Dan said.

Organizers are asking people to come early, to avoid the rush.

The gates open two hours before the first performance.

“Obviously it’s like a hockey game, you have a whole bunch of people showing up the same time to the same place, so be patient with us while we get you in and out but it’s certainly our goal to get you into the grounds as quick as we can,” said Sarah Van Gilst, an organizer.

For the crowd at the event, the effort was worth it for a glimpse of the performers in the sky.
