Coroner may look into McDonald’s shooting deaths

TORONTO – There may be an inquest into the shooting deaths of two people at a Toronto McDonald’s last February.

The announcement was made by the Ontario Coroner’s Office on July 17.

That comes in the wake of a decision by Toronto police not to lay charges against an off-duty security guard who fired the fatal shots in the fast food restaurant on the Danforth.

The possibility of an inquest was raised by Police Chief Mark Saunders on July 16 when he was speaking at police headquarters.

Police have revealed little about the shooting. They will not release the name of the security guard who fired the shots or the surveillance tape that captured the incident.

There is no timeline on when a decision will be made.
