TORONTO — Late night star Jimmy Fallon shared details Monday of the accident that almost cost him a finger.

The Tonight Show host — back on air for the first time since June 25 — told the audience he isn’t expected to get feeling back in his finger for eight weeks.

Fallon said his ring got snagged on a countertop on June 26 and forced his finger “sideways.”

The 40-year-old was rushed to New York’s Beth Israel Hospital and then transferred to Bellevue Hospital Center for treatment by a hand micro-surgery specialist.

Fallon had a six-hour operation in which surgeons took a vein from his foot and reconnected it with tissue in his finger.

“I was in the ICU for 10 days,” he recalled.

Fallon said he knows how lucky he is to still have the finger.

“Apparently, the odds aren’t great, and usually they just cut your finger off,” he said.

Still, the Tonight Show host found humour in his predicament.

“I should say, the fall was funny,” he said. “I’m a comedian, so I have to fall funny.”
