Three people injured in serious Blackfoot Trail rollover

CALGARY – Three people were injured in a rollover on Blackfoot Trail on Friday.

The collision happened around 3 a.m. between 53rd Avenue S.E. and 58th Avenue S.E.

Investigators believe a 2002 gold Infiniti I35 was traveling southbound when the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to flip several times before coming to rest on its roof on the other side of the road.

“The vehicle struck the centre median and became airborne, landing on its roof and sliding towards the curb,” said police in a release. “After hitting the curb the vehicle traveled approximately 40 meters. It flipped back on its wheels and began to roll, coming to rest in the grass verge.”

EMS say a man in his 20s, the rear passenger, was ejected from the vehicle. He was rushed to hospital and was in life-threatening condition with multiple traumatic and possible internal injuries as of 1 p.m. Friday.

A man and woman inside the vehicle, both in their 20s, were extricated and taken to hospital. Police said the driver remains in serious condition and the front passenger received minor injuries.

Police believe speed and alcohol were factors in the rollover.

The vehicle suffered extensive damage.

The rollover closed both the northbound and southbound lanes of Blackfoot Trail.
