UPDATED: 19 year-old charged in relation to crash that killed Stettler teen

Several charges have been laid against 19 year-old Trevor James Dahl of Stettler for his involvement in a crash near the town, which left a 17 year-old girl dead.

RCMP were called to a scene about five kilometres northwest of Stettler around 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning. When they arrived, they found a pick up truck which had gone off the road and into a row of trees.

The right side of the truck’s cab took the biggest hit in the collision. As a result, the 17 year-old passenger died from her injuries at the scene. Her name will not be released at the request of her family.

Police say neither of the occupants were wearing seatbelts, and alcohol and speed are considered factors in the crash.

 
The 19 year old driver from Stettler received minor injuries.

Dahl has been charged with several offences including: (dangerous) operation of a motor vehicle causing death, and failing to comply with the demand of a Peace Officer to supply a blood sample, knowing that his operation of a motor vehicle caused an accident resulting in death.

 

He remains in custody and has a bail hearing scheduled in Red Deer on February 13th.  

 

The criminal investigation continues. 
 

Stettler is 177 kilometres southeast of Edmonton.
