Man steals squad car, leads legion of police in epic chase

WATCH ABOVE: Multiple vehicles were damaged during an incredible police chase in New Jersey.

Bail has been set over one million dollars for an alleged New Jersey carjacker that led police on an epic chase Saturday, causing all kinds of damage and sending an officer slamming into a concrete median.

According to the Leonia Police Department, 22-year-old Sereymanta Kong originally stole a mother’s car in Englewood Cliffs moments after she removed her child. After struggling with police, he somehow acquired a police cruiser and escalated the situation.

“He’s kicking and fighting with them and somehow puts the police car into reverse,” said Englewood Cliffs Police Chief Michael Cioffi.

Dashcam video released by authorities shows Kong, followed by a throng of police vehicles, weave his way through the streets of Bergen County.

According to a witness, Kong was seen wearing a police hat and even stuck his tongue out at New Milford Police Sgt. Nicholas DiGenio before hitting his car, causing him to fishtail into a median and suffer a wrist injury.

Eventually Leonia Officer Erik Goodell took control of the situation (it was his dashcam that recorded the released video). Soon after DiGenio was taken out, Goodell performed a precision immobilization technique (PIT) to stop Kong’s vehicle.

A short foot chase followed before the suspect was apprehended.

“Here’s a guy that puts on a police hat, sticks his tongue out at pursuing officers, in my 25 years I’ve never heard of such an act, so that will tell you what type of state of mind he had,” Rowe added.

Kong continues to be held on $1,275,000 bail at Bergen Regional Medical Center. He is facing a list of charges including three counts each of assault on police, resisting arrest, eluding with serious injury and much more according to WABC.
