One teen dead, another charged in Saskatchewan ATV death

KAMSACK, Sask. – A Saskatchewan teen is facing a number of charges after another teen was killed while riding a stolen ATV. It happened on July 1 in Kamsack.

An off-duty Mountie spotted the ATV with three men onboard being driven erratically around 3:15 a.m. on Queen Elizabeth Boulevard.

A few minutes later, the driver of the ATV flagged down the off-duty officer near the Kamsack sports ground, saying one passenger had been seriously injured.

The passenger, 18-year-old Brandon Cote from the Cote First Nation, died at the scene. His cause of death has not been released.

It was later determined the ATV had been stolen from Madge Lake, Sask.

The driver of the ATV, Kaylon Tourngeau-Genaille, 18, is charged with dangerous driving causing death, theft of a motor vehicle, theft under $5,000, possession of stolen property over $5,000, and break and enter.

Tourngeau-Genaille appeared in Canora provincial court on July 2. The case has been adjourned until July 14.

A third teen from the Cote First Nation remains in custody. Charges are pending against the 19-year-old.

The Regina Police Service will be conducting an independent external investigation into the involvement of the off-duty RCMP officer and report the results to the Ministry of Justice. The appointment of an independent observer is also being considered.
